New Mysteries – December 2014

There are lots of good-looking mysteries hitting store shelves in December —just not enough time to read them all (at least for me). But here are a few that I am going to try to get my hands on as soon as they are released:

The Ghost and Mrs. Mewer book coverTitle: The Ghost and Mrs. Mewer     Author: Krista Davis

Release Date: December 02, 2014      ISBN: 9780425262566

Why?    It feels a little odd to read a Halloween mystery in December. Halloween mysteries are best when accompanied by the howling winds and falling leaves of autumn, not the crackling fireplaces and drifting snow of (almost) winter. But this one’s plot – the little town of Wagtail, VA finds its annual Halloween celebration disrupted by a team of ghost hunters investigating local legends and a murder at the site of an infamous haunting – and Davis’s captivating writing style are tempting enough that I might make an exception.

The Red Queen's Run book coverTitle:
The Red Queen’s Run      Author: Bourne Morris

Release Date: December 09, 2014     ISBN: 9781940976570

Why?    It’s fitting that Morris’s debut novel would involve the murder of the dean at a university and the suspects among its fractured faculty: As a former Journalism professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, she has firsthand knowledge of campus life and politics. I love a campus mystery, and Morris’s extensive experience should make this a good one.

Shadow Of Doubt book coverTitle:
Shadow Of Doubt    Author: Nancy Cole Silverman

Release Date: December 02, 2014      ISBN: 9781940976532

Why?  A Hollywood agent, murdered in her bathtub; the victim’s nieces, pitted against each other in the media frenzy after one is accused; a radio talk show reporter, determined to track down whodunit and clear her friend’s name; a psychic suddenly predicting more deaths…This one just sounds fun.

Those are my picks for December 2014. What new mystery releases are you anticipating?
